Store either fulgeA.exe (for 95/98/ME) or fulgeU.exe (for NT/2000/XP) to desired
program directory (eg, C:\Program Files\fulge, or wherever you wish).
Create shortcut to executable in your Start Menu/Programs, or on your desktop,
or in your quick start area of your taskbar. Some web articles on how to do these
things:
Copy existing fulge flashcard files to desired data directory; this may be
the same as the program directory, but for NT/2000/XP systems, that may not
be a directory to which users may write, so you might choose, eg,
C:\Application Data\fulge.
Running
Start the program (via shortcut, or simply via double-clicking on the exe).
If the program does not open the flashcard file you want (and it certainly
will not the first time, or if you disable the option in the Options/File Options
menu to open your last file), then use the File/Open menu to select
a flashcard file to review.
Press the space bar to step forward through prompt and response for each
flashcard.
If you wish to switch prompt and response, or if you want to randomize
(or unrandomize) the cards, use the Options/Card Options menu.
Creating flashcard files
A flashcard file is a simple text file consisting of one card on each line.
Each line should contain first a prompt, then a vertical bar ("|"), then a
response. You may use whitespace, commas, semicolons, and so forth as you like.
Blank lines are ignored, and so are comment lines; comment lines begin with a
hash mark ("#").
A flashcard file may also be a collection of other files. Here is a simple
sample of such a file, which is simply the superset of two files:
Flashcard files with non-English letters should be saved in text encoding UTF-8,
on Windows NT, 2000, and XP. On these systems, Windows Notepad can save a file
into the UTF-8 encoding by adjusting the "Encoding" combobox at the bottom of
the "Save" dialog box to the choice "UTF-8".
